Performance Arts
Ballet as we know it know became concrete in the 19th century, but is the foundation for most forms of dance today, and is the single most important discipline for any serious student. Through highly stylized movements, we learn fluidity and grace, we develop structure and discipline, and we build balance and strength. Our ballet classes are centered around the Vaganova method, but Cechetti and Balanchine principles are also explored, creating a well-rounded dancer. Jazz/Street is a combination of the fundamentals of classical jazz technique, derived from the Black vernacular dances of the 19th & early 20th century, and built on by legendary artists like Giordano, Mattox, and Fosse, combined with the newest and latest innovations in dance today. We also blend in basic hip-hop knowledge and moves for a fun and energetic class with lots of possibilities. Acro/Tumbling is a style which incorporates floor gymnastics skills (such as cartwheels and handstands, side and front aerials, front and back handsprings, etc.) as well as strength and flexibility. Mats, spotting, and some apparatus and props are used when necessary to help students gain greater confidence in new tumbling skills. We utilize an open gym format, allowing individual students the ability to work on different skills in progression at the same time, based on their level and ability. KinderGym is a preparatory level tumbling class for Pre-K and K age students. Contemporary & Modern dance styles are explored in this combination class. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz and ballet dance. Through improvisational exercises, we connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements, with an added focus on floorwork, and performing to many different styles of music. With a focus on Limón technique, our modern program will also explore the work of Graham, Duncan, and Dunham, among others, exploring many styles of this type of dance that strives to break free of the rigidity of ballet and using the body to break ground on innovative movements and ideas. Lyrical Dance combines multiple techniques with a focus on musicality, performance, and expression through storytelling. Dancers will learn how to utilize their bodies in connection with the music and its themes. Lyrical dance is often combined with other styles of dance such as acro or jazz. Musical Theatre is a class designed around acting, singing, and movement for storytelling. Our class focuses on acting skills, character development, and theatre choreography, and includes fun games and improvisation. Fitness Classes Hip-Hop Cardio No props. No mats.
