Class Uniform
Please note that our uniform has been updated for the 2024-2025 season. Please read all information thoroughly. Students must be prepared for class in order to participate.

All students should select nude/flesh tone undergarments or those that remain discrete underneath dancewear to create clean lines. Bare midriffs (sports bras, halter tops, etc.) are not permitted as class attire. Long hair (past chin length) must be in a proper bun at or below the crown for all ballet classes, without bangs for ballet classes. Class-appropriate warm-ups are always permitted. Students may be asked to remove them once instruction begins if they interfere with class work. Please, no hanging or loose jewelry; medical jewelry is excepted. Piercings may need to be covered depending on location.

MVDT is an inclusive and body-positive setting. Unitards are an acceptable substitute for leotards and tights. Black leggings, shorts or pants, and a white or black full-length top is a permitted substitute for regular class attire.

Level 1a Students Pink leotard or biketard, tights or dress socks and tap shoes for Tap students. No attached skirts please. Students may need a pink ballet skirt for performance. Separate matching pink ballet skirt required for performance.

Level 1b Students 
Pink cap sleeve, tank or long-sleeved leotard, pink convertible ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. Girls may wear pink or white dress/dance socks instead of tights if preferred. Separate matching pink ballet skirt required for performance.

Level 2 Students 
Baby blue cap sleeve, tank or long-sleeved leotard, pink convertible ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. Separate matching ballet skirt required for performance. Girls may wear pink or white dress/dance socks instead of tights if preferred.

Level 3a Students (Ages 8/9)
Lilac or light purple camisole or tank leotard, pink convertible ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. Matching ballet skirt may be required for performance. Black dance shorts are permitted for Jazz/Tap. Girls may wear pink or white dress/dance socks instead of tights if preferred. Tap or jazz shoes are required for tap and jazz. Biketards & unitards/singlets are also permitted. No tights, skirts or layered shorts permitted during Acro spotting sessions please. Lyrical shoes or dance socks may be required by instructor.

Level 3b Students (Ages 10/11) 
Plum or Dark Purple camisole or tank leotard, pink convertible ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. Matching ballet skirt may be required for performance. Black dance shorts are permitted for Jazz/Tap. Girls may wear pink or white dress/dance socks instead of tights if preferred. Tap or jazz shoes are required for tap and jazz. Biketards & unitards/singlets are also permitted. No tights, skirts or layered shorts permitted during Acro spotting sessions please. Lyrical shoes or dance socks may be required by instructor.

Level 4 Students & Pointe/Pre-Pointe Students (Ages 11+, Middle School or Older)
Burgundy or Wine Red tank or camisole leotard with pink or flesh convertible ballet tights and matching split-sole ballet shoes (tights and shoes must match) with ribbons for ballet students. Pre-pointe and pointe students (with instructor approval) should have properly fitted pointe shoes. A 3/4" light pink hip-alignment belt is also required for ballet. Black ballet skirt may be required for performance. All ballet students should also own a white romantic practice tutu. Please see your instructor for details. Tap or jazz shoes are required for tap and jazz. Biketards & unitards/singlets are also permitted. No tights, skirts or layered shorts permitted during Acro spotting sessions please. Lyrical shoes or dance socks may be required by instructor.

Level 5 & 6 Students (Teens and Adults)
Black camisole leotard with pink or flesh convertible ballet tights and matching split-sole ballet shoes (tights and shoes must match) with ribbons. Pointe students (with instructor approval) should have properly fitted pointe shoes. A 3/4" coordinating hip-alignment belt is also required for ballet. Black ballet skirt may be required for performance.. All students should also own a white romantic practice tutu. Please see your instructor for details. Tap or jazz shoes are required for tap and jazz. Biketards & unitards/singlets are also permitted. No tights, skirts or layered shorts permitted during Acro spotting sessions please. Lyrical shoes or dance socks may be required by instructor.

Hip-Hop Only Students please wear any black or white full-length top (no bra tops or crop tops), black bottoms (shorts, pants, leggings, etc.) and a pair of white athletic or hip-hop sneakers to be used only for class. No street shoes please.

Boys/Men/Inclusive Attire
White top, black bottoms (shorts, fitted pants, or tights), black ballet shoes & white dress socks for ballet. Black jazz shoes or tap shoes may also be required. All young male students in middle school and older should wear a dance belt for safety purposes. Please, no loose clothing for acro, and no layered shorts.

Company
Company students are required to have a specific company uniform. Ordering information will be made available to company members after the start of the season. Company students may wear their company leotard to all classes & rehearsals. Jacket/Warmups may also be required.

Additional Notes
Other types of tights may also be required for performance (rhinestone, fishnet, footless, stirrup, etc.) and info will be provided along with costuming information. Studio jackets with our logo are also available through SparkleGear.

Dancers en pointe must provide their own rosin. Dancers who prefer not to dance barefoot may use dance socks.

Footwear/Shoes & Tights
The following items are footwear recommendations for our classes. Other items may also be acceptable. Please email the director for questions.

Shoes/Tights Colors:
Ballet shoes should either be pink (female) or black (male) or may match your skin tone. Pink shoes should be worn with pink tights, and flesh tone shoes with flesh tone tights. Jazz shoes should be tan (female) or black (male). All tap shoes should be black. Dance socks may be tan or black for class, but a color will be selected by the instructor for performance.
